Information for Alumni & Community Members

Getting a Library Card

If you are Connecticut resident, you may purchase a Community Borrower card for $50 at the Babbidge Library circulation desk (see Babbidge's hours). The card is $35 for members of the UConn Alumni Association. The card is valid for one year.

Students and instructors at selected higher education institutions, spouses of faculty or staff at UConn, and other individuals may be fee exempt. See http://www.lib.uconn.edu/about/services/circulation/access.htm for details. The card is only valid for that semester if you are from another higher education institution.

Recent UConn graduates may still be in the system and able to borrow materials for a few weeks, but otherwise there are no other privileges for alumni, except as mentioned above.

Borrowing M&DA Library Materials

Loan Periods. The Community Borrower card (above) allows you to borrow Music & Dramatic Arts Library sound and video recordings for seven days, with one online renewal allowed for the sound recordings. You can also borrow books and scores for thirty days, with two renewals allowed. Check our hours before heading over, since they are different from the main Babbidge Library.

Fines & Notices. Fines are severe, so note the due dates before leaving the library. Overdue and recall notices are sent to the email account that you provide, so please check it regularly. Here is a list of Music Library loan privileges (and fines) for Community Borrower's cards (PDF).

Renewals. Go into the library's catalog (HOMER) and click Renew Books / View Account. Be sure materials actually renewed. If they did not, please return them before the due date.

If you do not have the borrower's card, you may browse the library's print collections. You may also listen to or view discs in the Music & Dramatic Arts Library, but you will need to present a driver's license or some other government-issued picture ID (please allow extra time for staff to fill out paper charge slips).

E-Resources

The Community Borrower Card does NOT provide off-campus access to UConn's electronic subscription resources. Individuals may visit the library if they need to search online resources, or should use e-resources available through iConn, Connecticut's public library e-resource suite.

Copying and Printing in the Library (Visitors)

Library copiers and printers do NOT accept cash. Visitors who wish to use these facilities may purchase a Library Services Card at the Babbidge Library that allows visitors to use the library’s public printers and copiers at the same per-copy price as UConn faculty and students. (The Community Borrower card above does NOT include copy privileges.)

Cost: $5 (includes $3 overhead and $2 credit to be used for copying)
Buy at: Babbidge Library, Level 1, at the “Husky Bucks” machine
Refills: Use the same machine to add funds in $1 increments.
