Reunion Gifts
Class of 1957 - 50th Reunion Class Gift Campaign
Dear Classmates:
The Class of 1957 50th Reunion celebration is only months away, and we hope you have considered coming back to Storrs. Our anniversary celebration promises to be especially significant since it comes on the heels of the recent 125th anniversary of the University. Full information can be found on the reunion website.
Given the significance of the occasion, we have proposed that the Class of 1957 create, as their special reunion project, a fund in support of the Homer Babbidge Library. The Class of 1957 Learning Commons Fund will support a revolutionary new area in the main library that will allow students and groups to easily collaborate, learn interactively and complete their academic work using the latest technology. In today’s fast paced learning environment, students are asked to take a more active role in their education. Libraries are just beginning to support this transformation by dedicating prime real estate for the development of a Learning Commons: a facility deliberately designed to enable collaborative and interactive learning. The Learning Commons is an integrated learning environment that will bring together all the required tools and support services: computer workstations, printers and scanners, research databases, academic software, collaborative work spaces, social areas and on demand tutoring assistance. The Learning Commons will be such a significant enhancement of the Babbidge Library that the classes of 1997 and 2007 have also chosen to support it, with each class raising funds for a different aspect of the project.
The Class of 1957 Learning Commons Fund will support the construction and equipping of glass-walled i-Studios with large plasma displays, white boards, and other tools for group learning and collaboration. A monetary goal of $100,000 has been proposed for this special project. We ask that you join us in making a leadership gift commitment to the campaign. In appreciation for your class support, a commemorative plaque will be displayed in a place of honor near the i-Studios, listing all 1957 class members who contribute leadership gifts to the campaign. We thank you in advance for your support.
Sincerely, |
